Acid Rain World - Bucks Team Jeep

Rexy's Custom Corner

Rexy's Custom Corner - Acid Rain Bucks Team Jeep

Rex Downham February 18, 2021

My latest Acid Rain World Jeep project is here! In 2015 there was a convention-exclusive Acid Rain Jeep that was cast in green plastic. It was made to look like old army men toys, but didn’t fit in with existing Acid Rain figures due to the solid color and lack of detail. I decided I wanted to try my hand at painting one. Instead of Desert or Marine themed, I wanted to theme it around one of the military squads in Acid Rain World, Bucks Team.

The original Jeep toy

All primed.

This Jeep (like my previous project) also came in unpainted plastic, so it was easy to wet-sand, wash and then prime with Tamiya grey primer spray. After that, I taped off a few areas and started painting. I started with a grey base, one that I tried to match to the Bucks Team figures’ colors.

I then added additional colors like green highlights on the bumpers and wheel wells, a black coat for the seats, silver for headlamp covers, headlamps and a couple of other small details.

Having recently learned how to print waterslide decals, I created several based on the Acid Rain World and Bucks Team visuals, printed them out and applied them at this stage. This includes the “AGURTS” crest on the hood and various Bucks Team and member logos.

Base coat and some masked off areas.

Additional coats and colors

After applying and sealing the decals, I started sponging multiple colors onto the different pieces. Starting with a very dark brown to lighter brown and then some very light sponging of black on top. This was the initial pass for weathering and wear/tear. After that, I did a ton of detail painting for weathering. This consisted of many different paints from Citadel, Vallejo and Tamiya, over many different coats and layers. I also painted on some thick mud to the shovel up front, splashes & spills on the petrol can and more.

Once painting was complete, I sprayed the pieces with some clear coat and then brushed some additional clear coat on some particularly sensitive areas (where figures would sit, interact, etc). Once dry, I reassembled the Jeep and did a small final pass of weathering and detail painting.

Enjoy the pics and let me know if you have any questions or comments on Twitter!
